And you are coming with! (No need to pack up, I already did it for ya if you subbed before today!)
Spoiler: I am not leaving New York City (I love her so much) but I have moved my newsletter over to beehiv.
This is new relaunch supports my next venture: Evolving my business to the next era.
So when the beehiv team reached out to support my relaunch? It was an absolute yes. Why? (Keep reading) And I brought cake!!
never had a cake with my face on it
This re-launch is extra special because happening on the 3 month anniversary !!! of the official start of me working for me at my business call Unicorn Social.
Wow. I made it a full quarter as the CEO of my Social Media Consulting agency and embracing my life as a “content creator.”
I spent most of my career behind-the-scenes as an Executive Producer, Director, Strategist, Creative, Editor, Head of Social, Social Media Manager, the “intern” (according to some comments) and the list goes on!
BTW I’ve never been happy with any title I’ve ever had but that’s a newsletter for another day!
And yet “content creator” felt too fluffy. Like “influencer.”
Until one day a longtime friend of mine said: “Sarah you’re so ‘you’ online, whatever platform you’re on. And you built that platform and audience. HELLO!?”
Yeah you’re right. So now let’s put some stakes in the ground and build. As a military brat, I’m used to packing up and leaving a place I barely knew. But the reality is: I’m here to stay (on the internet.) So let’s lay down a foundation for good.
It’s time to invest in my business even more.
Invest in what I’ve already done for years on my “public journal” aka my social handles.
Invest in my vision.
So why am I moving? Lemme list the reasons:
1. It’s time for me to value my own expertise. SCARY! VALID!
Launching my newsletter during my “self-care sabbatical” in November was a test. To find out if I liked writing, if I had anything to say, and if it was sustainable.
Turns out: Writing longer, more nuanced, more personal anecdotes (outside a ~10 word Instagram caption) was really fun and valuable. I have some stellar emails from my corporate days, and isn’t that what this really is?
So with that, I’m re-launching my newsletter with a paid subscription of $5. And yes, it changes the game and that’s exactly the point. I know my POV provides value. And honestly, my hesitation to turn on paid subs, held me back from sharing more.
I know my expertise, tips and anecdotes should not be free.
And while I am a woman in SPAM (Social Media, PR, Advertising and Marketing), I actually don’t like to sell. I’m a storyteller and clown at heart.
On the other hand, for less than one coffee a month ($5), you can have a digital coffee with me through my newsletter. (And there will still be free versions of my newsletter too!)
The best of both worlds.
And this will make my beehiv the first platform I’m actually monetizing on. I don’t monetize on my Youtube, and TikTok and IG RPM’s are nothing ever since their Creator Programs sunsetted.

Actual earnings off a 2 minute IG Reel with 2.5M views
Which brings me to my next reason:
2. I’m prioritizing and scaling what supports my business.
I’m a big believer that there is not one right answer for “What is the perfect platform for (brand)?” but I’m currently creating for algorithms on “Engagement Media” platforms.
I want a stronger community. Even if that means, less eyeballs. I want quality eyeballs. I want nerdy Social Media eyeballs.
Across all my social platforms, 450k have chosen to follow me but the algorithm is choosing to not share my content with that audience. And at the same time, some of my lowest performing posts on LinkedIn and Instagram, have been quoted back to me the most. That’s a sign that some of my nuggets are breaking through. How cool!
But once a post has gone through its algorithmic cycle, it kind of… disappears.
Beehiv is a full ecosystem for a multi-faceted creator like me. I’m able to have direct access to my subscribers, design a whole website, launch digital products (eventually) and monetize without having a cut taken out.
It supports a full creator ecosystem for what I’m building. The Unicorn Social cinematic universe.
With that, beehiv is hosting a Summer Release Event on July 16 at 1pm ET and they’re hyping it so much, so if you’re thinking of creating a newsletter or just curious: RSVP HERE!
3. I’m having a lot of fun.
After having a 9-5 for the last 10+ years of my career nonstop, I did have a lot of fun, but in order to dream bigger, I had to rediscover what “fun” in my future aspirations looked like.
Because I love fun.
And the most fun I’ve had in my first quarter as a solopreneur was strategizing the next evolution of Unicorn Social:
I love my new “Frutiger Aero” aesthetic:
It feels so me. Fun, multi-faceted, millennial yet fresh, not too serious and effective. Did you know that technology X nature X bubbles vibe had a name?!
Strategizing my own brand and business:
After building brands for the last 15 years, shifting the conversations to my own brand has been an energizing switch up. The beehiv team has been so supportive and positive. Good people.
Brainstorming what’s next in the newsletter:
Whether it’s speaking on panels, content or in person, I always ensure there’s tactical tips that anyone can apply to their career or life.
I get so frustrated when I’m at a convention and the speakers only talk about strategies that worked for their “the stars aligned” campaign.
Whenever you see me, I’m gonna be adding some tactical tips from real life experiences there. Always 100% human. Sometimes smart. Sometimes whackadoodle.
Future topics I’m noodling on:
Where to start on social? When do I quit a job? How to come up with unlimited ideas? Climbing Cringe Mountain. Wanna do Youtube? What about we all do a 12-week Artist’s Way challenge together?
Dearest Gentle Reader, Lady Socialdown is listening. I’ve had so much fun with my classier alter-ego, Lady Socialdown on LinkedIn but this author needs your help for what’s next! Get your pens ready to share the gossip around the ‘ton.
Think of Lady Socialdown as your anonymous megaphone: Ready to listen to the trials, tribulations and tea.
What does this mean? Every so often, I will send out an anon form for you, a Social Media Professional, to submit answers to some of our industry’s burning questions.
But I must warn you: What is submitted may appear in a future newsletter.
With anonymity ofc.
The first one is here: Do you LIKE your Social Media job?
Have something else on your mind? Go off here in Lady Socialdown’s confessional booth. This could inspire a future topic of newsletter.

Now it’s time for cake!!!
And if you’re a creator looking to get into a newsletter, may I interest you in beehiv?
Use code SARAH30, for 30% off for your first three months on beehiv! #beehivpartner
Til the next one (in 2 weeks, because we’re going bi-weekly babes!)
See ya on the internet,
XOXO Lady Socialdown aka Sarah Whittle

Nicolas Nuvan has 3.6M followers across TikTok and Instagram, and IMO not talked about enough. He visits different boroughs around NYC and pops into restaurants and businesses of people that don’t look like him and instantly has chemistry with everyone he features.
It’s truly “feel good” content and I think he should be getting way more attention for creating content that connects cultures and generations rather than divide them.
He doesn’t do anything special with the editing or the hook, it’s just great storytelling that makes me feel like I’m there with him.
Highly recommend to follow him. Highly recommend more brands to work with him.
